Rome, May 1, Labour Day

The May 1 International Workers Day began as a day of action related to the struggle for the establishment by law of the workday to eight hours.
On May 1, 1866 twelve thousand factories in the United States, 400 thousand workers on strike. And government repression was brutal and savage master. The police and the army intervened, dozens dead and injured, hundreds arrested including eight anarchist leaders later condemned to death, two of which saw then converted the penalty to life imprisonment, one was found dead in his cell, the rest were executed by hanged on 11 November 1887.
The profound social changes, the change of habits, the gradual homogenization of habits have profoundly changed the meaning of an event which had always praised the distinction of the working class. The way to celebrate May 1 is then changed over the years.
For several years CGIL, CISL, UIL have chosen to celebrate the day of the May 1 national event dedicated to promoting a specific theme. And ’appointment also become a traditional rock concert that unions organize in Piazza San Giovanni in Rome

- Will close on May 3rd exhibition dedicated to the great English naturalist Darwin exhibition at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome
- Until May 24 the exhibition on Futurism at the Quirinal Stables
